I actually really loved it

I mean, it wasn't a perfect movie, but it was good
It had some pretty cringy moments that could have been improved on (especially with Godzilla's design), but overall I liked it

Godzilla is so stupid. I like kaiju films more than I do giant monster films, and this one just feels so dumb. It's almost as if they wanted to do something new and different, which would've been fine if it didn't suck ass.

I can understand your opinion
But for me, the best part about this film was how realistic it felt (as far as giant monsters go)

I liked Shin Godzilla as well, but it did feel like it was trying too hard to be serious. It's not a bad thing, though. I personally think the newer Godzilla films are just stupid and bland.

I actually kind of enjoyed the first Godzilla reboot, but Godzilla 2 was really bad
It felt like it was just trying to beat the previous film

Godzilla 2014 was alright, I guess. Godzilla 2000 was better. Godzillla vs Hedorah is better. The original Godzilla films are better than any of them. Godzilla 1954 and Godzilla: King of the Monsters are probably my favorites. Mothra vs Godzilla isn't that great, but it's still good.

I loved Gojira. It's still my favorite. Godzilla: King of the Monsters has some issues here and there, but it's also one of my favorites.

Yeah, I'm just glad we're getting another Godzilla film in 2019
It'll be interesting to see what they do with the franchise after all these reboots

I'm sure it'll be alright. I wouldn't mind more Godzilla films, really. I hope that Toho can continue making the movies, though. Hopefully, we can get back to a serious tone again like we did with the original 1954 film.

I feel like Godzilla was at his best when he had an actual threat to deal with rather than just some generic bad guy
I think that was why 54 worked so well

That's true. The only bad guys that Godzilla ever fought were the other giant monsters, and that's not including the few times where Godzilla was an anti-hero.

Yeah, the only time he was really "evil" was the American version of Son of Godzilla (or whatever), and even then he was still considered the hero

@shadowmorel
Well, technically speaking, Godzilla wasn't necessarily evil in the Japanese films. He was just fighting other monsters, which made him kind of like an anti-hero in a way. However, I guess you can say that Godzilla has been more of a hero than he has been a villain in general.

Even in the original film he's still more of a hero
He literally kills off everyone who tries to hurt him by accident, but he's still considered the good guy

True. That's what makes Godzilla such a great character. He's not your usual hero where you want him to win every single battle. With Godzilla, he does some pretty messed up stuff, like with killing all of those people at the port in Gojira, which is why I find his character so interesting.

It's funny because most people love Godzilla now, but back then (when the original film came out) nobody liked him and thought that the movie was terrible

It's really weird how that happened, isn't it? It's almost as if it was some sort of cultural phenomenon or something.
