He is a blue hedgehog who is a video game hero. He usually has an adventure and defeats Dr. Eggman/Eggman Nega/other enemies in his way.

Basically. They're mostly made out of pixels. There's a lot more to it than that, though.

Well then why is it "Sonic" and not something else? Its just an ordinary word we would use everyday. The name has no special meaning behind it.

Alright, so Sonic is a kind of creature in the same way that a dinosaur is a kind of animal, right?
Because "Sonic" is just an ordinary word, but when you put it in front of another word, it becomes something else. But what does this mean for me, as someone who's never played a "Sonic" game before?
Why do people like them?

Dinosaurs are animals that have died out. There's still some around, though. Not many.

So then why do people like "Sonic"? What makes it special compared to other games, say, that are similar? Like Super Mario or Crash Bandicoot. What exactly does it have over other games?

Well, Sonic is one of the oldest video game heroes. He is in every Sonic video game. He was in an animated show, too.
