You can post whatever you want. Most people post stuff like they're having lunch with friends and other things like that.

i just dont understand why people would post things about their life
like its not even a diary
its just like a status update thing except it has a character limit and isnt linked to facebook

You can have it linked to Facebook if you want. Twitter is basically a blog where you can only post in tweets. The character limit is there because the website was originally designed to allow users to text each other.
