I'm gonna explain how you can make an engaging and interesting story.
1. Make sure there's a plot twist at least once
2. Don't put in random filler scenes
3. Make your characters have their own personality and not be just "generic" characters
4. Don't overuse the word "said", said is just as bad as "the end"
5. Don't make it too short, it needs to have some decent length. But don't make it too long either.
And that's all! You're ready to make your own story. I suggest watching the movie Interstellar, it has a great plot twist at the end of the movie.
