I am in the process of getting a custom-built computer. I need some advice on what components to get, as well as what to look for when choosing them.
I'll be doing some gaming and streaming, as well as a bit of professional rendering (3D modelling) for fun.
So far, I've heard that an i5 is a good processor for gaming, but that you should consider a mid-tier GPU when it comes to doing any rendering.
And I'm just wondering...do GPUs matter at all for normal gaming?

i5 is fine, an i7 will overclock better though.
A good GPU is always important, even for standard gaming.

I guess I should mention that it's going to be built by a friend, so the parts might be cheap, but it's going to have the same capabilities as a high-end computer.

Yeah, I'm fine with AMD. It's not like Nvidia really matters in this area. You don't want to get too cheap when it comes to a GPU or else your game will slow down and become laggy.

@OP
AMD is usually cheaper than Intel, which means it might run a tad bit slower, depending on how much you spend. If you only need around 60 fps at 1920x1080, you can go with any processor (CPU) and graphics card (GPU) combo. Just make sure the GPU you get has a lot of video RAM (VRAM). As far as CPU goes, I wouldn't suggest getting the top of the line, because you probably won't need it. That's just me though. But I would get at least the i3.
