So there's this band called The Killers. I really love their music, they're one of my favorites. One of the lead singers is Brandon Flowers. He was born in Las Vegas, and his family moved to Utah when he was young. That's where he met his bandmates, who are still with him today (one of them plays guitar, bass, and keyboard. The other one plays drums).
I was watching a video on YouTube about the history of The Killers, and in it the guys talked a bit about their childhoods, what their families were like, etc. It turns out that Brandon Flowers was adopted by his parents, which is something he told the other members of the band. When they told him they didn't know he had been adopted, he said he figured since he looked so different from them, that he must have been adopted. They said that it made no difference to them.
The video goes on and shows clips of them performing all over the world and talking about how lucky they feel to do what they love and how grateful they are for everything they have. They also talk about how they don't want their fans to think that being famous means they've "made it" or something like that. Brandon Flowers says something along the lines of how being famous is just another way to say you're rich. And then he says that he doesn't know how long this fame will last and how he hopes that it lasts as long as possible. He says that if the fans like their music, then they'll continue making more, but that they won't change their music just to make money.
That's the end of the video, and then I started to think about what he said. It makes a lot of sense and it seems genuine to me. But I was thinking about how they started out in Vegas with only $500, and now they are super famous and successful. So I asked myself if I would be able to handle fame or not. I guess I'll never know, but I'm sure that fame can either make someone or break someone.
I don't know why I just wrote this much. I just felt compelled to write something about this. Anyway, I just thought it was cool. If you want to see the video, here it is:
