I don't get why people are mad about the fact that some Pokémon won't be in the game.
There's going to be a ton of them, and if you're complaining over not getting 700+ Pokémon you must have no life.
The only thing I would change is the fact that the story won't be open like in previous games.

And with it being the most popular game, more Pokemon would mean MORE MONEY FOR NINTENDO. They wouldn't make money with only 100 Pokemon, so they're not going to make 700, they'll make somewhere around 300-400.
