I am inquiring as to the cause of this. Is it because of the Earths atmosphere or just that the sun is yellow?

You mean the Sun is orange, not yellow.

The Sun is actually a mixture of all the colors except black, which is why it looks white. The Sun also emits heat, which makes us see it as "yellow"
