He's playing some weird piano music and humming along. He has a bandana on his head and a knife in his waistband.
What do I do?

The music stops and he walks into the room with an expressionless face. He's holding a box cutter and a sawn-off shotgun. He stands there staring at me for a minute, then walks up to me. He pulls me up by the back of my shirt and says "You wanna run?". I nod and he says "Good". Then he puts the gun under my chin and presses the barrel against my throat.
He says "Why do you want to go outside?" and I say "I'm bored." He says "You're not going to be bored anymore." I close my eyes and wait to die, but nothing happens. He lets go of me and walks out of the room. I follow him down the hallway, and he pushes me into my dad's bedroom where I find my mom laying on the floor dead. There's a large hole in her head with blood all around it. My dad is standing over her with a knife in his hands. He's still humming along to that stupid piano music.
What do I do now?

I punch him in the face. His eyes widen for a moment, then he gets mad and punches me back. Then he kicks me in the ribs and drags me into the kitchen where he ties my arms behind my back. He has a rope hanging on a wall near the stove, and he uses it to tie up my legs as well. Then he goes into the living room and turns on the TV, but instead of turning to the news or a movie, he turns to a cartoon. I watch the cartoon until the end when the credits roll, then I start to hear strange voices coming from outside. The voices get louder and louder until I finally realize what they are: screams.
My mom is screaming. My dad must be killing her. What do I do now?

I don't know how long I've been waiting when suddenly there's a loud crash outside. It sounds like glass breaking. I can hear people running around outside, but no one comes inside the house. I try to make as little noise as possible, but it doesn't seem to work. Suddenly the door opens and three police officers come into the kitchen. They see me tied up on the floor and start shouting for me to stop moving. The next thing I know, they're handcuffing me and dragging me out of the kitchen. They put me in the back of their squad car and drive off.
When we get to the station, they take me into an interrogation room and sit me down across from a detective. He asks me some questions about what happened, but I don't say anything. He keeps asking over and over again, but I still don't answer. Eventually he gives up and leaves the room.
I wait in the interrogation room for hours before a different detective comes in. He introduces himself as Detective James and starts questioning me again. This time I decide to tell him everything that happened.
After I finish telling him everything, he says "So you were just sitting there doing nothing while your parents were being murdered?". I nod my head and he asks me why not. I shrug my shoulders and say "I don't know." He looks at me for a moment, then says "You know what? That's enough for today." Then he gets up and leaves the room.

Detective James walks back into the room and sits down across from me. He looks at me for a moment, then leans forward and puts his elbows on his knees. He folds his hands together and rests them on top of his head. He looks at me for a moment longer, then opens his mouth.
"What did you expect to happen?". His voice is soft and kind, but there's an edge of anger behind it. I look away, feeling ashamed, and mutter "I didn't expect anything."
He sighs and shakes his head. "You're just lucky to be alive," he says. "Your parents are dead, and if I didn't catch you in time..." He trails off. I don't know how to respond, so I stay silent.
After a few more minutes, Detective James gets up and leaves the room. As soon as the door closes, I lean forward and rest my forehead against the table. My shoulders slump down around my neck, and tears start rolling down my cheeks. I don't know why I'm crying, because I shouldn't even be here right now. If it weren't for Detective James, I'd probably already be dead.
