i was just kidding its not that hard to get used to a laptop its pretty much a mobile desktop pc except for the screen size and the fact that you can take it with you on the go

Well, if you're a college student, then you'll find out. You need to be able to have your own computer in a dorm room, and a laptop is just more convenient.
But for now, yeah, desktop all the way.

I'm 13 and I have a desktop computer, so yes, kids do know about computers.
But laptops are easier to move around with (at least for me), but if you get a big, powerful desktop computer that's what I'd go for.
