The very first time I played a video game was on a Gameboy Color. I was 5 years old, and I went to a friend's house to play with his little brother who was about my age. He had this awesome little yellow monster in his game, so I asked him how he got it.
He said something along the lines of "You have to trade with someone" (I don't remember exactly) so I thought he meant the two players had to trade their Pokemon. He gave me one of his Pokemon for me to keep, and I traded for my own.
From there I just kept playing and playing until I beat the whole game.
