80s was a great time for rock and dance. Sure, there were some bad songs in the 80s but not all of them were bad.

But there were a lot of good songs in the 80s, though. And most of the "bad artists" got famous because they had catchy songs and/or popular videos. A good example of this is "We Built This City" by Starship. It's a bad song but it still managed to get famous.

That's because 80s music was very mainstream
and while there was some good music back then, it was overshadowed by the mainstream.

The rock scene during the early 80s was decent, yes.
but it didn't last long and it died off when hair metal came in.

I remember hearing a lot of songs like "867-5309/Jenny", "Take On Me", and "I Hate Myself for Loving You" on the radio. Those are just some examples of songs I think were really good in the 80s.
