What to do in an emergency
Emergency plan
1. Make sure there is a fire extinguisher and smoke detectors.
2. Have an exit sign by all doors.
3. If you hear a fire alarm, call your parent or guardian immediately and get out of the building.
4. Never fight a fire alone.
5. Do not touch the electrical outlets after the power has been shut off.
Flood plan
1. Know where the highest ground is located. (high ground is away from water)
2. Wear shoes that will be safe in case of flooding.
3. Never play in flood waters.
4. Know where the closest high ground is located.
5. Never drive through flood waters.
Tornado plan
1. Listen to local radio stations for information on tornados.
2. Plan where to go and what to do in a tornado.
3. NEVER go outside during a tornado!
4. Watch TV channels for information on tornados.
5. Always have an emergency kit.
Hurricane plan
1. Have a family emergency meeting about hurricanes.
2. Have a plan for what you should do before, during, and after a hurricane.
3. Be prepared for a hurricane.
4. Be sure to have food, water, batteries, flashlights, etc.
5. Don't leave anything out in the yard, or it might fly around and hit someone.
Drought plan
1. Help conserve water in your household.
2. Take shorter showers.
3. Only wash full loads of laundry and dishes.
4. Turn the faucet off while brushing your teeth.
5. Only use the dishwasher when you need to.
Earthquake plan
1. Listen to radios for earthquake updates.
2. Go to the safest place in your house.
3. Find a safe place in school if there is one.
4. Do not use elevators or fire escapes.
5. Stay away from glass, windows, ceilings, lights, and electrical outlets.
