Well, the idea is that if we didn't get Reagan we may never have seen the "Reagan revolution," which would've meant that we might not have had the Cold War end in our favor, thus we may never have become a superpower. So I guess that's what they mean by "it could've been worse."
Personally I don't care what happens to the US, because I'm leaving in a few years anyway.

Yeah, I figured that out myself when I went to high school and found that the education system here sucks compared to other countries.
All of my foreign friends are shocked by how much more competitive the American education system is than anywhere else.

I don't really care who gets elected as long as it isn't Donald Trump. All of the candidates have their flaws, but at least the rest of them have some kind of political experience. Trump's just a rich idiot who thinks he can get anything done because he has money. And let me tell you, he will screw us over in every way possible.

Yeah, Clinton is obviously the best choice even though she's pretty bad herself, but at least she's better than Trump. The only thing we can do now is pray to the almighty god called "the system" that it doesn't screw us over this time like it did with Brexit and the UK.

Because the system's job is to pick the best candidate (or one of the better candidates) to represent their party while Trump's job is to win votes.
They'll do everything they can to make sure that the best candidate wins, but Trump won't care because he thinks he can get anything done since he has money.
