i dont know why people get so mad over this
it was always gonna happen
you can't keep making a series with the same old characters forever without eventually running into a creative block or something
and since most people don't want to see Sonic die and everyone is so excited for Sonic Boom, they're finally getting back to creating the next game instead of trying to delay it any longer

this isn't really anything new
they've made a new sonic game every few years for the past decade or so
people just get surprised every time because it's not usually talked about much before it actually comes out
