Ever since my best friend died, people are always trying to talk to me. They'll say really random stuff like, "Can't you smell it?" or other weird things.
It's really starting to creep me out. My mom says it's normal for people to be curious about death and that they're just trying to help but it doesn't make me feel any better.

I think I know how you feel.
One time a girl walked up to me in school and started asking me if I was related to someone who died in my town. It was really creepy because the guy I am related to is like one of my family friends.

Also I think what your mom said about them wanting to help is true. Some people think they can help you get over the death by talking about it so they go up to you and ask questions and say random stuff like that.
Not sure if I explained that well.

Yeah...people kept asking me if I was related to him. Or if we were close friends. Or if he was my cousin. The people asking these questions wouldn't stop coming until my mom got tired of it. She told them off and they backed away. Now they all act like I'm a psycho and won't even come near me.

That's what people usually do when they're scared of something.
They tend to run away instead of facing the problem head on.

Yeah, exactly.
Some days I just want to stay home and be with my family. But then they start bugging me with their stupid questions. So I'll sneak away again. Just for the sake of being alone for awhile.

I just wish there was a way to tell people you need some space without them freaking out and trying to force you to talk.

I just try my best to avoid eye contact and not make any sudden movements. It seems to work okay. But sometimes I can feel them following me around.

I guess you could try telling them that or giving them an excuse to leave.
If you get in trouble for it later you can say you were just joking anyway.

I tried that. It doesn't work. They think I'm a psycho now so they don't want anything to do with me. That's why I always end up sneaking around.

Just give up then?
Or tell your mom about it. I'm sure she'll help you.

I told her. She said she would tell them off but they always come back. I tried telling her again but she just tells me to be patient and give them some time.

I see...
Well I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. All I can say is that it should get better eventually.
Just try to keep that in mind.

Thanks for listening, man. It helps having someone else understand. I usually only talk to my best friends about this stuff but they got scared away as well.

No prob. Anytime.
But yeah I know what you mean. Whenever I talk about my sister dying people always just get uncomfortable and walk away...

Oh. Okay. Sorry to hear that. My brother died too. He was my sister's twin. So losing him was really hard on her. Not really sure what happened to him since I don't remember too much from last year. Or maybe I do but the memories haven't made their way into my brain yet.
