what is a robot
is it one of those things with arms and legs, but they are made out of metal? or some kind of human like creature that has no life?

A robot is a machine with human-like characteristics.
If you were a robot then you would be an advanced computer in the shape of a person.

but why would we make robots
why not just make computers
i mean i guess computers have to be programmed and everything but it is still much more simple than making a whole robot and making sure that they don't go haywire or something. i mean if you build a robot and program it and such then there might be a chance that you could cause the robot to do something it shouldn't be doing and so that would cause problems

Well, I would say that the main point of having a robot is to have a machine that can act as a human without being one. Just imagine that someone could be able to use a robot as a stand-in for themselves while they are away somewhere.

"but why would we make robots

Computers are not always reliable and sometimes go wrong.
Robots are perfect for any job.
"i mean if you build a robot and program it and such then there might be a chance that you could cause the robot to do something it shouldn't be doing and so that would cause problems"
Robots never get sick or make mistakes.
