My best friend is a girl and she is 14 and she has long hair too. She has the same personality as my guy best friend. I don't see why people would look down on us because we both are boys, but she is a girl. I just see her as a friend.

Ok. I have no problem with telling people. I don't want people to think I am a coward or anything. I'd tell them that I'm not gay, but that I have a guy friend. That would be fine.
