I've never heard a player use the word newb (newb is just another way to spell noob)
I've also never heard a player use the word newbie. (newbie is short for newbie, duh)
Newb is a word that I have seen a few times, but not in a long time.
Newbie has been used a few times, but not very often.
Noob is still used A LOT.

@fastlane
Because "noob" is a stupid word, and people are too lazy to make up their own words.
