Use the best possible footage, or edit it very well to make it look like you used the best possible footage.
I know, I know. This is what all of you are going to say: "But I do have the best possible footage!"
And that's fine, but how much work do you put into your videos? You could use the best possible footage, but if you don't put any work into editing, you'll get no views and no subs.
This is why all of the top video makers have so many subs: They edited it well.
