They already got smart enough to say things like "you won a contest" and stuff like that. They don't need to know language to do that, just the words themselves. If they can find those words and put them together, then they can make something that seems real

It wouldn't be as good if the bots didn't know what the words meant though. For example: A bot might ask you for your email address and it would give you an email address saying "Hi! You won a contest! To claim your prize click this link!"
But without knowing what those words mean, it doesn't make sense. So, basically the bots would need to know what the words mean for them to be convincing

They can use the dictionary. I'm pretty sure that's how they get their information.

Still, it would be easier for humans if they knew what the words mean. And it'd be much more convincing. But yeah, I guess the dictionary would work

The dictionary works well enough, but if they ever do get smart enough to know what the words mean, then they will be even worse than before.
