I have to make a speech in my class tomorrow and I'm going to read this out, if anyone wants to know.
"Dear teachers, administrators and parents.
You may not remember me because I am not like the other students. I am one of those kids who sat quietly at the back of the classroom and did not cause trouble, so you probably didn't even notice I was there. You probably thought that I had no brain because I never answered questions in class but I did understand everything, and I learned more than just what you taught. I never came to school with the perfect homework, or with the homework you told us to do. Instead I always came with something new, something interesting, something you hadn't covered in the books yet. I may have looked like a fool when I showed my answers, but that's because you never taught me how to show my work. You see, I never got good grades on my tests. I never really tried either. I knew I could get all A's, but I wanted to be an artist and it wasn't worth it to me to spend my time on academics, even though I knew I could. I hated studying, because studying took away from my time to create.
So now here I am, all grown up and working as an artist. I have painted murals all around the world, and have sold my paintings for thousands of dollars. And you know why? Because I loved art, and I followed my heart. I loved creating more than getting straight A's. Now I know that you may think this is a bad influence, but please don't stop your child if they want to follow their dreams. Children should learn at a young age that there are many ways to success. Just because you didn't want to follow your dream, doesn't mean someone else won't.
