We have a wifi router. The TV has its own built-in wifi which allows me to connect my phone to it wirelessly. I can also use it to cast Netflix or Hulu onto my TV.

It doesn't need its own modem because it's not connecting to the internet.
It's just accessing the Internet via our router.
