Why did they have to make a new one

Because the people who can't stop making threads about their favorite things and celebrities that they're obsessed with needed a place of their own so that those threads wouldn't clutter up RT and OT.

I'm just wondering why they didn't do it sooner

It was probably due to some staff being too busy for whatever reason, and now that they're not as busy they made it.

"people who can't stop making threads about their favorite things and celebrities that they're obsessed with"
There's nothing wrong with liking a person or an activity you enjoy. It's not like anyone forces you to read them.

It's not like people are forced to watch a YouTube video on a popular topic either

There is something wrong with people posting threads about the same thing all the time though. They need to have a place where they can post about whatever they want without having to worry about cluttering up RT and OT, otherwise we'll be stuck with those threads forever.

I don't really see the problem with one person posting about the same subject

One person isn't the issue here. The issue is that there are always a few people who take things too far and spam the forums with the same repetitive thread over and over again because they're just so obsessed with their favorite person or subject, and they feel the need to post about it over and over again. This has happened before in several subforums, including RT and OT, and now they've made this new forum for them instead of letting them do what they want in RT and OT.

Well, I think they should give them a warning and ban if it persists

They did. They tried, but it didn't work, which is why they had to make this new forum.

Yes, yes they will. If they continue to post threads that are inappropriate for a given subforum, they'll get banned and stop.

But if they post something that breaks no rules at all, then there's nothing stopping them

It's the same as with most of the subforums that were made recently. This subforum was made to prevent certain types of threads from clogging up RT and OT. There are subforums specifically for OT and RT, and now there's a subforum specifically for certain types of threads. If you don't like the forums being split up like this or whatever, just don't post here.

So what you're saying is that it's not actually meant for those specific things?
