you don't learn anything while watching it, unless you were watching the news or something, in that case the only thing you'll learn is bad things that people are doing

You never know what you might find entertaining. Anime can be quite educational. The only reason why people say it is bad is because they have seen or watched some really bad episodes. So, if you haven't tried it then you wouldn't know what's so bad about it.
