....and I saw a cop car pass by. The thing is, it was right behind me for awhile and then suddenly passed me. I thought about the possibility of him chasing someone and I looked around to see if there were any people that he might be after.
Nothing.
It didn't help that we were on a highway with no side streets either.
I'm still wondering what was going on.

That's what I figured but I still want to know why he went so fast and why he would only go that fast in the first place. Like, I don't think there's anything wrong with the roads or anything like that.

if he was after someone and you happened to be in the way, he might have sped up to catch the person

I don't really see any possible suspect who could've been behind me unless they were also going pretty fast and they just didn't speed up.

Maybe. Still, I don't think it's normal to be going that speed even if you do have a very important reason for doing so.
