The phone rang 3 times before I answered. And I said "Hello?" Not "Hello, University of Phoenix!"

I answered because my mom picked up the phone and put it down in the other room. I saw it ring so I answered it. But I didn't know who it was. I thought it was someone from my school.

you don't have to answer every time the phone rings
i'm talking about this situation specifically
just because it's your mother that picks it up and puts it in another room doesn't mean she'd pick up the phone if it rings while she's on her way out the door
if she had been there when you picked it up, she may have said something like "i'll get it" or "can you please hold a moment for me?"
