A good example is "You're not a real OTer unless you're in the official OT group". It's a fad started by a guy who thinks he can run OT better than the rest of us, which he can't.
I think it's funny how people are so concerned about their status. They always have to say "I'm not a real [INSERT GROUP HERE], but I'm better than all the people who are in the group."
Seriously, if these people want to see some REAL groups with REAL moderators (not the ones who go on about how they're the best), then take a look at the clans and guilds forum.

I also hate the "You're not a real [INSERT GAME HERE] unless you play for X amount of time or you complete this goal" fad.
